Climb Every Mountain 2008-2009
Second Grade students enthusiastically stepped into our school theme as we climbed trails around Squak Mountain. After discovering the pretzel tree, we solved riddles as we headed up to higher elevations.
Second Grade Field Trips and Events
During our trip to the Museum of History and Industry, 2A members showed how early settlers used ink and a quill to write. We are working with timeline to learn more about our nation's history. Our class will soon visit Pioneer Farms in Ohop, where students will get close to animals and participate in many chores pioneer children would do. This authentic pioneer farm helps students step back in time to learn about the daily experiences of early Northwest settlers.
Forest Explorers
After investigating creatures from every layer of the rain forest, 2A students were seen monkeying around near the orangutan exhibit at the Woodland Park Zoo. Each student is currently studying a particular rain forest creature to learn more about this important ecosystem.
Game Day in 2A
To celebrate a wonderful winter of learning, 2A students spent an afternoon involved in games. Students worked cooperatively to follow game directions and consider what strategies would help them succeed!
Port of Seattle Trade Tour
In the spring our second grade classes tour Odyssey Maritime Museum to learn how we use the Port of Seattle for work and play. An Argosy Boat Tour, sponsored by the Port of Seattle, helps us to learn about international trade by getting closer to container ships, grain terminals and cranes.
Second and Sixth Grade Buddies
In the fall second grade students and their 6th grade buddies learned how alike and different they are by completing Venn diagrams. This year buddy pairs have been seen reading together, painting haunted houses, measuring pumpkins and searching for leprechaun gold.
